Poker is not gender biased and to prove that check out these women who play the game. 

 Cyclona  Gowen nickname ” Clonie ” grew up in Oklahoma and while in high school she excelled in many different sports.  She was 7th in the high jump, she was on a state championship basketball team and she loves to play poker.   Clonie competed in the Miss Teen Oklahoma at age 15 and won the crown.  Although she is a newcomer to Poker she entered the Word Poker Tour Costa Rica Classic and she finished in the top 10, and won $25,000.

Another women who enjoys playing Poker is Jennifer Tilly, you might recognize the name from a few movies, The Seed of Chucky, and Return of Chucky.  Jennifer won the World Series of Poker and received a bracelet and also won $158,625 in the Ladies No-Limit Texas Hold em event, there were 600 other players that entered this event.  She also has won the third  World Poker Tour Ladies Individual Tournament which was held at the Bicycle Casino in L.A.

Shannon  Elizabeth you might know from the movie “American Pie” enjoys playing Poker as well.  She was born in Houston, Texas and was raised in Waco.  Elizabeth played in the 2005 World Series of Poker Main Event.  You can now see her on the UPN Television Series Comedy Cuts where she works along side  actor  Marques Houston.

Erin Ness is a rising star  in the Ladies Professional Poker Industry.  She is from New Jersey and has played cards  since she was a little girl.  She attended Georgetown University and her  and her friends used to play all the time.  She is a model and worked for Maxim when she entered a tournament for the World Series of Poker.  Maxim paid for her $10,000 buy in.  She placed 207th at the 2004 WSOP Main Event. She also entered the 2005 Ladies World Series Poker Tournament and placed 46th.

David Reese was born in Dayton, Ohio in 1951 and even as a young boy he enjoyed playing with cards.  He used to play card with his friends and used to bet with his baseball cards. His friends really did not like to play with him because he always won.  When David was in Elementary School he developed Rheumatic Fever and due to this he missed almost a full year of school.  While he was recovering from his illness his mother took care of him and home schooled him.  His mother played board games with him and even taught him how to play Gin.

David has said in the past that it was his mother who taught him the basics of playing cards and gives her credit for teaching him and giving him the tools to be as successful as he is today.  David was also very athletic  in High School and he played football for his High School.  He was also very competitive on the debate team, and made it to the National Debating Finals.  After graduation he attended Dartmouth University where he was given the title Card Shark.  When he played against fellow classmates and teachers he could never lose.

After David left Dartmouth University the school named the card room after him. “The David E. Reese Room”. In 1974, David decided to attend Stanford University and become a Lawyer.  Well, on his way he stopped by Las Vegas and decided to play some cards with the $400 he had on him.  David turned that $400 into $60,000 and decided to change his career to playing Poker. It took almost a year for David to tell his parents what had happened in Las Vegas and that he was not going to be a lawyer anymore.

David was always playing Poker somewhere and his family encouraged him to enter the televised tournaments.  It was then that he started entering the World Series of Poker and his face became know real fast to those who tuned into the T.V. Series.  He did very well winning in 1978 as well as 1982, getting bracelets each time.  David has been a pro for 29 years and keeps on winning tournaments all over the country.

In 2006 David won the $50,000 Buy in H.O.R.S.E. when he had to play against Andy Bloch in a 12 hour standoff.  There were 143 other players who entered this tournament.  That’s pretty impressive.

Dave started playing cards when he was very young, he used to play with his parents, and when he got older his parents would not let him play with them any more because he would never lose.  Dave then could only play with his friends where eventually he had the same problem, his friends quit letting him play because he took all their money.  Dave had to move on to local bars where unfortunately he had a similar experience, he could not lose there either so you guessed it, they kicked him out of there as well.

When Dave turned 22 he decided to start his own jewelry business in his home town of Hull, England.  He  started playing professionally at the Victoria Club in London and did very well for himself, he also played  in Casinos, entering tournaments in Europe as well as Las Vegas. While Dave was playing Poker in England his fellow players gave him a nickname that has stuck with him till this day, “Devilfish”.  Dave did not even know what this name meant until they told him, it was the name of a poisonous fish.   

Devilfish got his nickname because everyone who has played against him felt that they could never win, and to play against him was just like getting bit by a poisonous fish aka Devilfish.  That same year Dave went on to play against Men Nguyen “The Master” in Las Vegas and Dave won the tournament.  Dave has won a WSOP bracelet in 1997 and he has 4 other major tournaments which has given him a lot of things to brag about.

Dave still owns his jewelery store in Hull, however he is constantly entering Poker tournaments and winning most of the time.  He is known for his Poker skills and playing in World Series of Poker Tournaments that are televised.  His face is seen world wide and probably has one of the most famous faces on the televised Poker tournaments.  He is considered a very strong Texas Hold Em player and so far has earned over $5 Million doing what he enjoys, playing Poker.

Chris Ferguson  as been playing cards ever since he was 9 years old.  While he was in grade school he used to play against his fellow classmates with his lunch money.  One day at school he lost every coin he had and on his way home he told himself that he would never lose all his money ever again.  His wish came true, and when he gambled in high school he always was on the winning side.  Chris graduated high school  and attended UCLA.  Chris majored in Computer Science and received his Ph. D. in 1999, however, it did take him 18 years to get it. Never the less he is a Dr.

While Chris was in college he was perfecting his gambling techniques and played quite frequently.  He recieved a nickname that you would only understand if you saw a picture of him.  “Jesus” was the nickname he recieved during his time at UCLA, his friends gave it to him because his appearance.  His long hair, and his beard gives him a look like the Biblical Prophet.  Chris started playing Online Poker for just fun, not with real money but this was before the Internet was as big as it is today.

Chris is known for his versatility in the way that his winning percentage is extremely high in many different games.  Whether  he is Online playing Poker or if he is in LA in a tournament he constantly is in the winning bracket.  He is also known for his winning in the casinos out in Las Vegas.  He loves the game and even plays frequently  for no money just to improve his game. 

 Chris entered his first World Series of Poker Tournament in 1995, however, it was in 2000 when he won the World Series of Poker Main Event by beating T.J. Cloutier.  Chris won a bracelet for Seven Card Stud and as of today has a total of 5 bracelets.   Chris is now sponsored by Full Tilt Poker and if you log onto their web site you can even against Chris live and try and take his money.

In the world of Poker there are many great Pro Poker Players and they make a great living at it.  Pro Poker Players love the rush they get while placing large bets and the risks they take can be very rewarding. 

Erick Lindgren is one of these Pro Players and  loves the game as well as the risks that are involved with the game.  Erick grew up in California and when he was in High School he was know for his great athletic abilities.  He was a All-Star quarterback for his football team and also excelled in his basketball skills.  After graduating High School he attended  college for two years then decided to follow his dream of being a Professional Gambler. 

 He started to get into the gambling scene by dealing Blackjack and some other games but he really enjoyed playing Poker.  Erick has had many wins while playing Poker,  In 2002, Erick won his first major tournament at the Bellagio, and a few months later won a World Poker event in Aruba.  The win in Aruba put $500,000 in his pocket and as you can imagine boosted his confidence level something fierce.  Erick then went on to win the WPT Party Poker Million Cruise where he was sitting pretty with a $1 Million pot.

In 2005 Erick was very successful and finished 2nd in the World Series of Poker Event in Atlantic City. He then went on to finish 5th in a World Poker Event in L.A. As I stated before, dropping out of college can be a good thing for some people.   In 2006 Erick placed 3rd in the WPT Borgata Winter Poker open, and in June  the same year won the Full Tilt Poker .Net Poker Pro Showdown.  That event he beat Pro Mike Matusow on the very first hand of heads-up play.

Erick has gone on to write his own book, “World Poker Tour, Making the Final Table”.  Inside the book you will find “How to’s” as far as what to do while making very large bets.  The bottom line is Erick has been a fortunate man who has enjoyed the game of Poker and I do not see him ending his career any time soon.  Look for his name on the Poker Winners List, because I know he will be on it.

Online Poker is a fast growing industry and  has become very popular in the U.S. as well as all over the world.
